Koinonia Peace & Justice

"Wars are generally fought for material things; they're not fought over ideals.  After we get into them, we are told we are fighting for ideals.  We are fighting for oil and tin and rubber and markets, and as long as we insist on a standard of life that is so high above all the rest of the world, we're going to have to pay for our standard of living with a lot of blood.   I think we ought to reexamine the fact that Jesus was a pauper, and we should be committing ourselves to a very humble, simple way of life." -Clarence Jordan 1963

Tuesday Classes

KOINONIA OFFERS FALL COURSE ON CHRISTIAN PEACEMAKING

On Tuesday evenings at 7 pm, from Sept. 24 - Nov 19, Koinonia facilitated a class on "Peacemaking in an Age of Terror." Historically, Koinonia has always been opposed to war from the basis of our faith in the nonviolent gospel that Jesus taught. Fighting violence with violence only creates new generations of terrorists. Yet, this peace that we seek among people must first be found within ourselves. Christ is the Healer of all brokenness; of all the violence that exists within the human heart. It is in relationship with God that we discover peace within ourselves and among others "the peace that passes all understanding." Our God is not a god of retaliation, but the God of reconciliation and to Him do we put our trust. During the next two months we will be discussing peacemaking from the Christian perspective. Feel free to join us, if possible, on Tuesday nights this fall.
