Get ready for Koinonia Homecoming 2004, October 29-31! Our annual reunion will feature Queen E’s delicious cooking, special events on the farm, and lots of time to socialize. Especially honored this year will be Con Browne (Clarence Jordan Humanitarian award), John Cole-Vodicka (Koinonia Partners award), and Faith Fuller (Special Recognition). Take a look at our Homecoming Events page. We hope to see you there!
Welcome to new community members Mike Odle and Fin Ferrell. This young couple pours their energy into the organic garden and its programs. Fin tells us, “I garden because I can’t not do it. I look at the world and I see exploitation, slavery, death, and the growth of only inanimate objects, poisons, and trash. Then I look at my community here at Koinonia and I see love, life, green and continuous fluid social change and personal struggle. I need this type of growth—God Growth—Life Energy Growth. Read more
Joining us at the table: beloved guests A group of kids from St Louis, Missouri gave country life a try, volunteering in the grape arbors and working on our renovations. They blessed us with poetry by Maya Angelou, recited by heart. Six visiting Japanese students joined us at Sunday potluck and sang “Amazing Grace” in both English and Japanese. Hope Bastian of Witness for Peace educated us about US-Cuba relations, and a family reunion and a wedding also congregated on the farm. It is a joy to greet every new face!
Feeding families on a journey Debbie, Ellie, Ann and J prepared a tuna salad lunch for families visiting prisoners. We gathered at Oglethorpe Baptist Church and served alongside members of the Prison & Jail Project and the Open Door Community. Each family got a bonus on the way out—bags of Koinonia-made cinnamon spiced pecans, fried peanuts, and granola!
Virtual renovations Koinonia housing sports a fresh coat of paint and improved plumbing, thanks to the elbow grease of our volunteers and visitors, and the Duplex will soon be ready for new community members Button and Luz to move in! Geoffrey is keeping an online renovations diary to share the progress.
