INFORMATION YOU MAY FIND HELPFUL BEFORE YOU COME TO KOINONIA
- There is no Greyhound station or airport in Americus. We may be able to pick you up from the bus station or airport in Albany or Cordele, GA given advance notice of at least a week. Please ask before you buy tickets! Please also bring $30 for each trip to help cover our gas expenses—round-trip mileage is about 80 miles.
- If you arrive outside of our welcome center hours (Monday-Saturday 9-5, Sunday 1-5), we’ll leave a welcome note for you in the big white mailbox just outside the main door to the store/office. Make yourself at home!
- The weekday noon meal is our prepared community meal. Other meals are on your own, so most people bring food or buy some in Americus (Harvey’s, Wal-Mart, etc.). You will have access to a kitchen and utensils, as well as to the “leftovers fridge,” and you are welcome to join our weekly errand runs to town.
- Bedding, toilet paper and soap are provided. Towels may not be available for those staying in the Guest House, so if this will be your lodging, please bring your own. We have a laundry room you may use for no charge.
- If you are a skilled worker with tools for building maintenance, construction, or repair, please let us know! Likewise, if you are a musician, we’d love for you to bring your instrument and share your talent.
- When you arrive, you will be asked to sign a waiver of liability, releasing Koinonia from liability in the event of an accident on our property or in our vehicles.
- All Koinonia buildings and vehicles are smoke-free. Alcohol may be used discreetly and in moderation in your residence outside of work hours. Illegal drugs are not allowed.
- Koinonia is unable to provide any health benefits, although we may be able to assist you to a clinic in the area that provides services on a sliding scale.
- Pets are not permitted for those sharing Koinonia housing. Pets traveling with RVs may come outside on leashes.
- Dress is casual. We suggest you bring a set of work clothes, old shoes, and work gloves, if you have them. You may help yourself to needed clothing in our small Common Closet.
- Telephones are available in the Dining Hall and the Office. You may make local, toll-free and calling card calls from our phones; please try to make personal calls outside of office hours.
- Email and postal mail may be sent and received at Koinonia.
- Koinonia is a firearm-free community with a commitment to non-violent thought and action. Please respect this deeply held Koinonia value.
We look forward to sharing Koinonia with you!
