Koinonia,
a Greek Word Meaning "Fellowship"
by Jenna DeLorey
the full spirit of God was unbeknownst to me,
imagine: a
stranger in my own soul!
I thought:
"I'll serve--irrespective of the Christianity"
only to find the best part
or, rather:
the inseparable--the true kernal and essence
"Koinonia, the seed-planting
machine
nonstop inspiration
making divine intervention divine
invitation
interracial intercultural interage--intergalactic!
choir of heavenly voices"
or, "Koinonia, brought to you in conjunction
with universal law
showing that renewal is the natural result
of brokeness"
and I've never felt the Spring so strongly
baby's first steps
a growth too fast for pictures
from hammering roofs to praying out loud
deepening me and my vocabulary
why, you've mentored me, ministered me, raised
me
as I plan to do in my future community--
know better than to mistake serendipity
Koinonia made a spiritual debutante out of
me
Georgia always seemed to carry a revelation
in its very earth
stained by history's bright blood
my sweat stung
but here also is the sweet:
inspiration, imagination, a bit of serene,
a beginning for justice
I reckoned I'd stay awhile
so...
no easy job, this
resisting by redecorating my room even as my
departure date draws in
as sure as there's pecans in these pockets
and clay staining these shoes
I leave a chunk of my heart in Americus, Georgia
to a farm on route 49 from 1942
knowing though, as God is my blood and my ocean,
that distance-separation is a trite detail,
a mere figment,
that in element we are eternally intrinsically
joined
quite simply, glory and grace BE
so, Koinonia, keep ringing the bell called
truth
and holding the mirror of justice
and leaving handprints of love on all you touch
A-men
