World AIDS Day, December 1, 2004.

Join with concerned citizens around the globe in observing World AIDS Day (Wednesday, December 1) in Americus,GA. Through dedicated speakers and presentations from local groups you will be able to learn more about the disease which has not only affected developing countries around the world, but also our own community here in southwest Georgia. The event, which will also include free, confidential HIV testing and immediate results, will take place in the CJC Auditorium on West Church Street from 5:30pm to 8:30pm with presentations each half hour.

5:30pm to 8:30pm

SCHEDULE:

  • 4:30-5:30pm: Groups set up their areas (group tables, food tables, video, etc.)
  • 6pm: Performance Learning Center (PLC) performs 5-10 min. role play about AIDS
  • 6:30pm: Speaker #1 20 min. (Columbus Wellness Center)
  • 7:15pm: Speaker #2 (TBA) 15 min. (local legislator like Mayor or Congressman)
  • 7:30pm: Inter-faith Service moderated by Jim Purks (of the Bridge) and others

Where you see spaces in the schedule denotes 'free time' where the visitors can wander from table to table, buy food, watch the anticipated video Epidemic Africa which will play whenever there is not a special event going on, read up on the groups speaking and acting out against AIDS in southwest GA, etc.
