The Koinonia Neighbor Program

We are grateful to have neighbors who have known Koinonia so well over the decades, some of whom even grew up around the founding members, like the Jordans. Some have served at Koinonia for years or even decades and know the community very, very well! Some neighbors in Koinonia Village, Forest Park, Americus or other nearby places might like to become more engaged in the Koinonia community… that’s why we created the Neighbor Program.

The Neighbor Program is for people who have their own home or residence, but would like to come to Koinonia at times to join us for devotions, meals, study sessions, social events, to offer loving help on the farm, grounds, bakery, kitchen, or through other talents. It’s a chance to fellowship with others, be out and about, participate in community life, learn, grow, and give back.

If you’re interested in the neighbor program, contact Ann at 229 924 0391, or email , or just stop by the farm at 1324 GA Hwy 49 South between 9-5 Monday through Friday! Here are some of our current opportunities:

  • Heart to Heart—This is our home repair ministry. Every so often, we announce an upcoming round of repairs. During those times, we take applications for repairs, so watch for the announcement. Neighbors—individually or in groups—can also be part of the group of people who help to repair houses.
  • After-School Program / Summer Youth Camp—Kids ages 5-12 who are looking for a fun place to go after school during the school year, or during the day during summer break, can consider joining our program. Others can also help out as activity leaders, tutors, helpers, custodians, etc.
  • Food Bank—Once a month we distribute food packages to people in need in our neighborhoods. We may also be able to deliver meals more frequently if you are sick or shut-in. Call us if you would like to help out with this program or if you have questions about receiving meals or food packages.
  • Circle of Friends—If you are an elder, you can come to this special program on Thursday mornings. It often includes field trips, art projects, music, devotions, educational programs and lunch. If you are a bit younger but would like to visit the Circle of Friends to share, make a presentation, learn, or help with cleanup and food preparation, please contact us!
  • Group visits—We welcome visits, daytime or overnight, from church, youth group, school or other groups. Groups often stay for lunch and a tour, look at the museum, watch the video about Koinonia’s history, work on the farm, or do other activities while staying in our guest housing. Some groups host their own conferences and activities in our space. Call us in advance to schedule a group visit.
  • Joining in the work, prayer, study and service of Koinonia—Some people enjoy coming to Koinonia to join in whatever work the community is doing, our regular prayer and meditation times, our weekday noon meals, or our study groups, we welcome you. This could be occasional, such as helping out with the Food Bank program once a month, or frequent and regular, like planting and tending flowers and herbs around the farm every weekday morning in the growing season, or on-call, like pitching in to cook when a large group comes to visit. Together we’ll make a schedule that works well for you and for Koinonia.
